Uganda Martyrs Day 2020
Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, Kampala | Wed, 03 Jun 2020
The day commemorates the 45 martyrs, both Catholic and Anglican, who were killed on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II, then King of Buganda between 1885 and 1887. It has over the years attracted millions of pilgrims from Africa and beyond, many of whom trek for weeks and sometimes months to this sacred place on foot. The site has also hosted 3 Catholic Pontiffs as well as many other notable global figures.
