Red Chilli was established in 1999 to meet the needs of the growing number of independent travellers and overlanders exploring Uganda. We operate a hostel in Kampala’s leafy suburbs not far from the city centre, where you can pitch your tent, stay in dormitories, rooms or self-contained cottages. In 2002, we opened the Red Chilli Rest Camp, overlooking the Nile in the heart of Murchison Falls with great value camping and a variety of accommodation in safari tents and ‘bandas’, in the midst of some spectacular scenery and wildlife.
Both facilities have a fully stocked bar and restaurant with cold drinks and tasty home-cooked meals plus a barbeque area for self-catering. Red Chilli is also well-known for budget safari tours. We have become the first choice for independent travellers who want a genuinely rewarding safari experience without breaking the bank. We now run a variety of scheduled tours to Murchison Falls NP, Queen Elizabeth NP, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and customized tours to the other national parks of Uganda. Experience breathtaking rift valley scenery and dramatic waterfalls, superb big cat and other game viewing in customised open top safari vehicles, rhino and chimp tracking on foot, river cruises surrounded by hordes of hippos and the mighty Nile crocodile, excellent birding opportunities, guided nature and community walks, and authentic cultural experiences.
At Red Chilli we pride ourselves on being environmentally, socially and culturally responsible in everything we do. This translates to our tours as well as our camps. We recruit local drivers with modern vehicles for maximum efficiency and train our drivers to provide a safe and comfortable journey for our customers, and take appropriate care when travelling through local community and conservation areas.
We also seek out positive and authentic cultural and community experiences to add to our tour itineraries. In this way, we have added a community walk in the Rwenzoris resulting in tree planting schemes and income for the local Bakonzo community and school, as well as an interactive craft workshop run by the community in Kikorongo, near Queen Elizabeth National Park. We are a budget operation that strives to offer good value for money to our customers and as such, spend our time focusing on our product rather than industry accolades.
We are however ranked 1st on Trip Advisor with a current recommendation rating from travellers of 86%, supported by consistently good reviews in all the major guidebooks – and that’s a measure of success we are very happy with but continually striving to improve
